Who is Sean Dampte?

Dampte, the African born artiste, was born Oluwaseun Oluyole the eldest son with 4 siblings of an Evangelist mother

and Pastor Father in the 1980’s. Dampte finished his High School Education in Lagos, Nigeria and graduated

Bellevue University where he earned his Bachelors of Science degree in Computer Information Systems with an

emphasis in Business.

Dampte started his music career at a tender age like many that came before him singing in a choir. Like many cats

he started off in the choir as a kid until he discovered and honed his talent for rhymes, wordplay, metaphors and

the ability to weave these and make sense.

Dampte’s path to recognition did not follow the conventional. Dampte first had the real taste of music at a

tender age listening to the likes of King Sunny Ade (KSA), Ebenezer Obey, etc., all Nigerian musical heavy weights.

Dampte has been influenced by the likes of Jay Z, R. Kelly, LL Cool J, Jadakiss, Styles P, Warren G, Snoop Dogg,

Treach (Naughty by Nature), 2Pac, Biggie Smalls, Wale, K’naan and a host of others. He also claims to take bites off

Nigeria’s own NAETO C. Dampte discovered and fell deeply in love with Hip Hop in 1994 after listening to a musical

compilation of some of the aforementioned artistes’ tracks. Dampte follows his own path musically blending in

rap and African undertones.

In 1999 after a lot of self penning, Dampte recorded his first solo effort titled “J-E-S-U-S”, where he featured

Rocksteady (of the now defunct 2nd Avenue) and Wreck (Now a member of Dem Mama Soldiers). After a long

hiatus due to education, Dampte returned to the music scene with a massive hit single “Wine Your Tinkolo” that

features rising Nigerian R&B star YQ. The single which was released in the first quarter of 2009 made it to various

charts across Nigeria and internationally. He followed his success with another massive hit single “Wapa” which

also made it to various countdowns. Not relenting, Dampte, now known for his Hit- dropping prowess followed it

with another hit “Ghetto”.

Dampte, a gifted writer and performer has got quite a repertoire and has been holding it down since before hip

hop started ruling the Nigerian airwaves. Dampte has successfully rocked audiences across Nigeria, and beyond.

His stage performances have always been off the hook. “I used to love to just sit down and write but now, I sit

down and spit.”

“I’ve got more anthems than any National..” . Dampte spits in a track off his soon to debut album.

He has shot over four videos, three of which have been released and are getting mad airplay.

His debut album “Los Gidi Certified” has got something in it for everyone. From laid back tunes to fast paced rhythms, Dampte

has managed to compose and successfully record over 14 hits. Watch out for tracks like Times Two, Street Magic,

Go Get-her, Ghetto and lots more.

His current release is “Are You Ready” featuring Tay Dizm (Nappy Boy). Dampte is penning new tracks and is back in the studio already.
