ESCHATOLOGY: The Anti-Christ When the rapture ushers in the seven-year reign of believers with Jesus in the air, it will also herald the great tribulation or the coming of the Antichrist on the earth. As his name suggests, the Antichrist will work at cross-purposes with the plan of God for humanity. His tenure will be characterized by strange and ungodly activities. Peace will be removed from the earth for the revelation of that man of sin — Antichrist, Satan and his agents will terrorize the earth, leaving suffering and anguish in their trail. God will use the Antichrist as a correcting rod and refining fire to purify the Jews in the second half of the great tribulation. The arrival of Roman Empire will precede the arrival of this man of sin from the empire’s Northern kingdom. He will break his peace treaty with Israel at the middle of His reign due to a desecration of the Jewish temple . The subsequent face-off will lead to a massacre of the Jews until they are rescued by the Messiah. Purpose of the Anti-Christ – The coming of the Anti-christ will serve dual purposes: (a) To prepare Israel for her Messiah. (b) To execute judgement on unbelieving men and nations. Activities of the Anti-Christ – The Antichrist, a diplomat of sorts, will flaunt a pseudo peace that will deceive Israel and other nations to make alliance with him at the inception of his reign. He will use his vast powers to oppose God and ensure that those without his mark, 666, will be Read more…

major objectives of a church The work of the ministry is sacred . Its sacredness sometimes beclouds some ministers and members from understanding what they are doing. This stems largely from the fact that a lot of the operators enter the ministry high on professional skills and low on character. Some others offer to serve not purely for the love of the ministry but for the money or power that accrues therefrom. Their purpose: to glorify self and not God. The work of the Church can become terribly complex and confusing. If mishandled, which often is the case, either the pastor or member gets hurt. While the ministry should be handled with respect, it shouldn’t be handled covertly, because sacredness is not to be confused with secrecy. The ministry should be open and above board. Our initial reason in everything we engage ourselves into in the work of God should be to give God the glory. How to effectively do this is the focus of this study and the next one. Basically, the church exists to kit its members in the area of worship, instruction, fellowship and evangelism. The last two will be examined in this study. The value of fellowship – The early church devoted itself to fellowship. The Greek word koinnonia, with the root koinos, has the idea of something being held “in common.” The Jerusalem Church not only had things in common, they were together.Acknowledging other christians as our brothers and sisters in the Lord, the believers that reside in Jerusalem distributed everything they owned so as Read more…

Common Misconceptions about the church A lot has been said about God, about Christ, about the kingdom of God and about Christianity as a religion which are not in agreement with the creed of Christianity. More still, a lot of errors about the church has been perpetrated the world over. Sometimes errors stem from the scriptures which are either quoted out of context or misinterpreted and misapplied. In most cases, errors are based on the general thoughts and customs of the people. Sometimes again, errors present an easy way out of the demand of God from man. Sometimes, they sound logical and appealing to the human sense, only that it is not the scriptures. Errors about the church emanate from lack of sufficient knowledge of the word of God by the peddlers of such errors. They stem from mere imaginations based of men’s customs. When such ideas are passed across, they are easy for people to believe. Some other errors about the word of God come from their peddlers when they stick to one verse (or passage) of the scriptures wrongly quoted or interpreted to suit their fancy. Some others are simply based on mere imaginations of how things should be. At times, errors emanate from utter disagreement with the word of God and making a new law based on self or human standards. Whichever way errors come, they must be discarded and the word of God must be upheld. Church’s foundation not laid on Peter – The Greek word “petros” has an equivalent Aramaic word “kephas” and it means Read more…

Cankerworm in the Church It is ironical that some people have crept into the churches of God today without any vision for the kingdom of God, let alone the progress of the work of God.  Their presence in the church is a problem to both leaders and followers. They are there unnoticed but eating up the body of Christ. They  are cankerworms. But the truth is that if no one knows them, the Lord, the owner of the church, knows them. And very soon God will expose and disgrace them. It is, therefore, important for each member of the body of Christ to examine him/herself and know who he or she is. It is the duty of every believer to beware to escape the operations of the cankerworm. But the judgement of God is awaiting this category of people. If you are one of them, repent today to receive the mercy of God. Characteristics of the cankerworm – By their fruits, we shall know them. Their lifestyles reveal who they are. But God will not leave His people in darkness. These canker worms murmur against God and constituted authorities, possess revolting and rebellious hearts, indulge in sins, and without showing any remorse. They do evil, even openly; they disobey clear biblical instructions of God. They are busy bodies and tale bearers in the house of God, they are the custodian of wrong doctrines and overthrow people’s faith. Run away from them. The cankerworm of old Some people lent themselves to be used of the devil in the Bible as cankerworms Read more…

How listening spares us pain Too often we confuse two terms – ‘to hear’ and ‘to listen’ – and equate them to mean the same thing. ‘To hear’ simply means to be aware of sound with the ears, without necessarily paying attention to somebody or something. ‘To listen,’ on the other hand, is much more engaging. It requires paying attention to what we hear. To listen to somebody is to take notice of what (s)he says in order to follow their advice or believe them. Consequently, listening well does more than give us necessary information. Sometimes it spells the difference between success and failure, pleasure and pain. The failure to listen can cause us a great deal of headache, and sometimes crippling setbacks. The Israelites appeared too overjoyed and over confident after their Jericho victory. They took the matter into their hand by not consulting God on their planned attack on Ai, which paled in size to Jericho. The result? They were soundly beaten in a setback that caused grief and fear in the Israelite camp. Like the Israelites, we often presumed on God and rush into areas where angels dread to tread. When we end up with avoidable bruises, setback(s) or attack(s) from the devil, we fall prostrate like Joshua to query God, why? Why now? But it would profit us to note that listening to God and carrying out His instructions will do us a world of good, always. A listening ear is an obedient one. And obedience to instructions brings life, peace, joy, promotion and happiness. A Read more…

The Christian and his conviction Conviction might be explained as a stable or secured faith. Conviction can be defined as the act of agreeing and having boldness that a thing is fact. It means a strong persuasion or belief. Conviction is opposed to doubt and skepticism. Abraham was our spiritual father. From the stand point of faith, he was certainly the epitome of a man of Biblical convictions as the books of Genesis and Romans demonstrate. When all odds were against him, he tenaciously held onto the promise of God. His conviction definitely impacted the way he lived, what he did, and where he went. Are you a man or a woman of convictions? It is good to be one. How men or women of convictions live – People who lived by conviction or belief derived from the scriptures demonstrate a strong commitment to the word of God . By commitment to the scripture, we mean: Recognition of scripture as inspired and thus inerrant and the final word of God. Commitment to the scripture as our standard for thinking. Commitment according to the Good Book simply means being devoted and dedicated to distinction in its study, use and application. We must use the Holy Book to leak all things that passes through our hearts so we can bring every opinion captive to the standard of the scripture. God told Joshua to be committed to the scripture so he could be a successful man. Conviction: a measure of our spiritual growth – Your conviction includes your worth, dedications and inspirations. Water from the rock just right when Moses succeeded in escorting the people from Egypt, he told twelve(12) secret agents to take a look at the Promised Land to see what they are against. There was nothing bad in such move. It would have helped them plan how to overrun Canaan, but the 10-man report depressed the people.   They lost their faith in the Lord and failed to take the land. Their faithlessness incurred God’s wrath. God gave them their hearts to wander about in the desert for forty years, until the older generation died off. He would then take the new generation into the land.  Around thirty-eight(38) years after, nearly the time for that promise to come to pass, a new set of people (generation) had grown. When the Israelites got to the desert of Zin, and they made camp in Kadesh, where there was nothing like water for the community, the people assembled in opposite of Moses along side with Aaron, grumbling, what is the reason you took us out from Egypt to this desert, just to destroy us and the animals? Why did you take us out of Egypt to this dangerous place? Like the Israelites, we often forget God’s past goodness to us; we also murmur and complain about what God is yet to do. What next when it is hard? – Moses and Aaron went from the gathering to the door step of the Tent of meeting and fell on the ground with face down, and the glory of the Lord came to them. Change begins from the mind The mind is that part of a person that makes him/her able to be aware of things, to think and to feel. It is an influential part of a person and a source from where every action (good or bad) emanates. A sin is first conceived in the mind before the act is committed. King David on sighting the beautiful wife of Uriah, conjured first in his mind the act of adultery, he eventually committed with her Little wonder then that Jesus said ‘… anyone that stare at female to strong sexual desire, he has executed infidelity with her already in his mind. Most crimes committed today are first contrived in the mind before the real acts are carried out. In like manner, the resolve to become a renewed and regenerated (born-again) Christian, forsaking sins and the old ways begins from the mind. It is thus imperative that for any change to be deep-rooted, all embracing, far reaching, enduring and effective, it must begin with a renewed mind – mind of Christ. Attitudes, actions mirror your heart – “Keep thy heart with all diligence for out of it are the issues of life.” The heart being that organ caged within the diaphragm cavity of the human body, away from the prying eyes, tends to harbor a lot of thoughts that only attitudes can bring out into the open. Who rules your heart, God or Satan? Do you possess positive attitudinal disposition towards the things of God. Your attitude reflects the state of your mind like Read more…

Your friends: an elevator or cage? If there is any critical decision an individual must take in life, it is the choice of friends. The type of company we keep can make or break us. A popular English cliché aptly sums it up ‘show me your friend, and I will tell you who you are.’ If more friends must come into your life, then some must leave your life. Friendship needs to be tested before it can be trusted just as a Yoruba adage puts it, “Pretend to be dead while sleeping so as to know those who love you”. There have been stories of friends reposing confidence in one another only to get betrayed at the end of the day. There are some  friends who are just there to milk you dry and abandon you to your fate. Ask yourself: The company I keep, is it adding value to my life or removing it? If you can’t get any clue as to whether you are making headway with your choice of friends, simply discard them. If you were burning for Christ at one point of your life, and later found out that your relationship with God has eroded, consider your choice of friends and back out before it is too late if that is your source of spiritual erosion. Remember, iron sharpens iron and a good friend compliments one another. Values of relationships – Man is a by-product of relationship. And Christianity is all about relationships – a vertical relationship with God and a horizontal relationship with others. And Read more…

Ingratitude: the common sickness Many people the world over, including Christians, seldom thank God for what He has done  for  them,  but  are  after  what more they can get from Him. Both unbelievers and believers are clad with ingratitude or ungrateful hearts, never appreciating the present and past blessings of God. Ingratitude is a common sickness plaguing humanity. While the unemployed seek job offers, some employees work reluctantly, complaining as they go. Others cheerfully give their best all day long. God expects us to be faithful on the job and serve with gladness. To brood and complain is not only a waste of energy, it is a mark of ingratitude to God. No matter your plight, there is still hope for the living. The spirit of ingratitude is also at work in the Church. When it is time to praise and thank God for His goodness, we do it with boredom. But it’s all fireworks when it’s time to pull down the enemy or ask for breakthrough. The truth? We are not better than the nine ungrateful lepers. If in doubt, ask yourself: when last did you testify of God’s gracious dealings in your life, family and work? What about that healing and deliverance from demonic attacks? We all need to shed our garment of ingratitude to tap into God’s blessings. Carnal man is self-centered and proud – Michal, the wife of King David exalted the position of a king above every other person, including God. That’s why she saw no reason why a king must be dancing before the Read more…
